Completing your industrial design course makes you eligible to pursue a career in industrial designing. 1. Briefing

The industrial design starts with the briefing of the product. In this stage, the client will present you with his idea, his needs and requirements, and the problems he is currently facing. As an industrial designer, you must ask the right questions to extract as much information as you can and get a complete picture of your client’s idea with all his aspects.

At the end of this briefing, you will get a summary of the product’s idea and its specific objectives. Based on this brief, your work will get a full-fledged direction.

2. Research

Once you get the product’s brief, you should research its industry, competition, and the performance of related products in the market.

By examining different specifications, design, and manufacturing materials used, you will be able to visualize the type of design you want to deliver to your client.

3. Brainstorming

This stage is one of the most fun and creative steps of the entire process. You will draw multiple sketches to create the design of the product, and you will be creating unique prototypes so that your client can choose one from many alternatives.  

4. Presentation

In this stage, you conduct a meeting with your client and offer them different proposals for their product. You present each proposal in-detail, explaining their elements, features, advantages, and how they will differ from current products in the market.

After evaluating each proposal, the client’s pick will go for further development.

5. Development and delivery

Upon selecting the proposal, you have to work on finishing the final details of the product. You will make sure that the product’s features meet the requirements and objects of the brief. Moreover, you will also incorporate last-minute suggestions from the client before running the final tests on the prototype design.

Once you are through with the development process, you will create a 3-D model of the product’s design on CAD software and deliver it to the client. He will then send it for manufacturing and production.
